Randomizing pitch of a sample with Obsidian's LFO (video tip)

Hi everyone,

This video shows how to randomize the pitch of a sample using the LFO of NanoStudio 2 Obsidian synth.
It's not an in-depth tutorial, I made it to invite you to experiment with it yourself.

Here I am using only the Random Loop mode but of course other LFO types have interesting results too.

The parameters that can be tweaked are:

  • LFO type with curve, pattern, length
  • Level
  • Attack
  • Rate
  • Output : Bipolar, Uni Half, Uni Full
  • Sync: Off, Key, Global

And important, don't forget to set the depth in the Mod Matrix, multiplier can also be used if desired.

The 2 original samples are from the Memory Collection 10.

  • Very nice tutorial @zvon ! ๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™d like to add that if youโ€™re just looking for a quick and dirty way to randomize the pitch of each note, for example on a hihat, you can easily set it up in the patchbay: Source: key-rand1 or rand 2 ; Destination OSC pitch coarse (or fine, if you want it to work subliminally) and dial the level to taste.

  • i would add another oscillator type "noise", with default level set to 0, and LFO1 routed with small amount to level of this oscillator... this would add a bit of "static noise" like radio interferences...

    Thanks a lot!

@Stilski and @dendy, thanks for the additional tips!
